Sharing some pics of our long, dark winter (+ 2 Christmas pics, #13)

Happy New Year everyone! May you and your furfriends have a wonderful and healthy year 2011!

Over here in Germany, winter came early this year, and we already had a lot of snow. Today, it was raining which makes the snow look ugly and dirty. And we haven't seen a blue sky, or the sun, for many weeks. It's getting depressing.

Here are some pics I took a few days ago, dull and gray, and kind of depressive:

It's not depressing, they're lovely! I think we Northerners have a better appreciation for the nuances of silver ad grey in a winter landscape than others!

Depressing weather can make for some stunning art.

A snowcovered lane
Lined with trees
Whose overarching branches
Form a lacy canopy of black and white
Beckons and forbids the viewer all at once
Would you be the one
Who dares mark the spotless blanket of snow
With your pedestrian tracks
Or will you, like we
Simply stare, longingly and wonder
What mysteries await
At the turn of the expanse
At the end of the arched path?

Branches bare and trunks black against the snow
Stand their silent vigil
Lining the road in ordered ranks
Like soldiers at attention
Never moving as the vehicles go by
Moving slower in the unplowed snow
Still they stand, abiding steadfast
Waiting
Whispering softly in the storm
Waiting
Bearing snow
Bearing rain, and ice
Waiting
Not for orders
From some lofty general
But for spring

Beautiul. The trees look like silent sentinels, guardians of Winter.


I really wish I could print this out to put on a wall.
