Aw, Slick, I'm so sorry to read this. Mitzi is suffering from renal disease too. She's not in any discomfort, but I can tell she's lost weight and her fur isn't quite as shiny. As long as she's eating and chasing her tail, I know she's okay - maybe not 100%, but she's not in any discomfort. We shall both enjoy our critters for as long as they may be comfortable and happy. We don't want them to suffer.

    Thank you for your replies.

Max is losing all his hair on one side of his body. Not sure whether or not it's from the renal failure but we have a white coat appt on Thursday at 11:30. At that time, Dr. Singh will go over with me how to give sub-q fluids and he will shave a "launching pad" on the back of his neck (this due to the fact that it's hard to find the skin under all that persian fur.)

    This rips me up inside.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand and strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO - What a Ride!

Oh, I'm so sorry about Max but you'll be surprised at how much he'll perk up after a subq. It could add years to his life or at least many, many months so don't give up hope. We're all pulling for Max and for you, Slick. Keep the faythe.
    Blessings,
    Mary

Oh Slick, I'm really sorry! I so hope the sub-q fluids will help perk Max up! I believe it will.

I'm thinking of you and sending lots and lots of positive thoughts and hugs.

I will be thinking of you and Max.
I did Taz's sub-q's for the first time last night. I about had a breakdown before, but I did it! So I know you can do it too.

Thank you for the siggy, Michelle!

Not as important as "kittens are coming" or our sweet Taz but here's an uppydate.

The vet visit went well. Dr. Singh doesn't know why the furloss; he doesn't think it's from the renal failure. He suggested adding Omega 3 oil to his food which I've started tonight.

He gave him his fluids for today and showed me how to do it. I also tried putting in the needle and it was a piece of cake. Max meowed at bit and I'm sure it hurt him a bit but he was a good boy during the fluid treatment.

The bad news is that he's lost some more weight in the last 10 days since he last saw the vet. The results from the stool sample will be a couple of days, but again, Dr. Singh doesn't think that parasites are present.

I'm leaving on an early flight on Friday morning and won't be back until Monday (this was planned months ago and flight is non-refundable). Max is in good hands; I have some wonderful catsitters but they won't be giving him the fluids but I'm sure he'll be just fine. When I get back on Monday I'll start him on a regime of fluids every night for the next couple of weeks then go and see Dr. Singh again.

I've got all my bases covered and I'm confident Max will be OK while I'm gone. Rest assured that this is the last trip I will every take now that Max is failing. I will be spending all my time now loving him and making his quality of life the best it can be.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers!
