I finally decided, I voted for #1. Because that way everyone can be happy. If you decide you want to send cards to everyone (like me) you can put yourself on the list and do that. But if you can't afford that and only want to send your cards to a select few then you just don't put yourself on the list and ask those select few for their address.

Thanks for the great signature Kay!

It seems that it worked out fine last year, from what I heard. So whoever organized it all last year, please do it again! I am just making things worse.....
Let me see if I can help clear some confusion...

I was the one who came up with the idea last year, I ran it past another member and she was the one who actually got the ball rolling. However, 'life' happens and she was unable to keep up with it so it got turned over to myself and Jackie.

Many people like to send out their cards around Thanksgiving. So the *original* list was sent out maybe a week after Turkey-day. Of course, we had people who decided (last minute) to join--no problem! I just sent out their address to the others.

The way it worked last year:
Once your name was on the list, the addresses were sent out, cards were mailed. There really wasn't a "pick and choose who you send to"---but then again, most participants were from the USA. We did have one non-USA resident on the list, last year. I'll be honest, I didn't send her a card. There were two parts to this reason: (1)money and (2) I waited to see if she'd send me one. (If she'd have sent me one, I'd gladly have sent her one.) I didn't receive a card from her, but I did get a really, really nice ecard from her--just as enjoyable!

*An idea*-- You could always wait and see what US/Canadian/??? resident sends you one, then respond to their's. I *doubt* that I will be able to send a card to everyone who is over-seas and on the list, but I plan on contacting them early enough so that they won't waste postage money on me. And anyone who does not receive a "real" card can definitely expect an ecard or two!

I hate to see you not participate in either list, Niina, but I completely understand! I can also see both sides: it doesn't seem fair to pick and choose, but at the same time, money is a big factor as to who/how much to send!

    My advice re: the options/poll---
if you are on the snail-mail list-- try to send to as many as you can afford, whether this be none, one, or 100. (this of course will involve, picking/choosing but I really don't see anyway around it, if there's financial limitations.)
if you are on the email list -- why not send an ecard to everyone? it only takes a few minutes to fill in the info and it doesn't cost anything to send an ecard.

    That's just my two cents!

My suggestion (for the Xmas card lists, both email and snail mail):
Let's let this topic die until at least Halloween-ish!! It seems too early to be talkin' about Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years!!

(that having been said, you are still more than welcome to send your addresses to me, if you choose to...)

Personally, I would advise you guys not to give your home address online, just to be on the safe side. E cards are probably safer, but even if you'll be using e cards, be sure to ask your parents if you are one of those younger ones. I will not be participating as I don't celebrate Christmas.
I agree, if you are a younger Pet Talk citizen, it would be good to talk to your parents before giving out your home address. That said, it is still pretty safe, as we will be emailing the addresses to one person to collect, and not just posting them online.

I wouldn't worry about getting the list until mid to late November. There would be too many additions and changes to it as the days pass

I agree with ZippyCat and Aly, ZippyCat did a wonderful job typing and keeping track of the snail mail list and believe me it was a lot of work, there were many changes and she kept up with all of them. If she is willing to do it again, I vote for her to keep the list, at least for the snail mail cards and perhaps someone else will offer to do the e.mail list. I sent out cards to everyone on the list and I do believe I got cards from just about everyone too. However I can't remember if we had any overseas, I don't think so, but I remember one from Canada.
It is a lot of fun, and like Aly I made pictures of Perry and Daisy and included them in the cards, believe me you really look forward to the cards and for those who included pictures of their pets, it was great. It's nice that there can be two lists that way if you can't afford to send one to everybody on the list there is always the e.cards which are wonderful too.
Thanks Zippy for offering again, I didn't think you would do that after last year. LOL

I do think it would be wise to start early, to see how many will be on the list, it may end up with many more people than anyone would bargain for. lol

This is kind of confusing me.

Why don't we do it like we did last year?? We had a list of people To send cards in the mail. The people whom were on the list were the only ones who go the list.
Then we sent whatever e-cards we wanted to to whomever we wanted to.

i talked to my parents, they said I can send E-cards and recieve them but my parents said money is tight (whole divorce thing) and we wouldn't be able to afford sending cards. And giving away your address on the internet is dangerous. So I'm in for ecards!

It truly was so much fun last year. And I know I sent at least one overseas, if not more. Because Carrie was on the list (or maybe on mine), plus I also had a list from Golden Retriever, so maybe I'm confusing everything!! Not to be surprised by that, I'm sure.

Tonya, thanks for looking out for us. I'm going to hold out until the last minute to give you my address because I'm in limbo as to where we'll be at that point. Boy, I sure do hate selling and buying houses!!
