Good Afternoon, Zoey! Oh, don't you look lovely and pensive! What a gorgeous face...and those beautiful eyes of gold; ahhhhhhhh!!! And who can resist a kitty who's mastered the art of "hide and seek!" What a lucky guardian to have such a sweet, loving and playful kitty as her "first!" You are stunning! Congratulations to you dear Zoey! It's a pleasure to have met you and congratulate you on capturing top honors as our beautiful Cat of the Day!!

I could make Zoey complain, all right... but I wouldn't. Absolutely not! Zoey deserves better than that, as do all cats.

The game, by the way, while sometimes mistakenly thought to be "hide and seek" is actually called, "Touch Coup." It was invented on June 9, 1584, by a small group of cats that roamed about the northern planes of what would later come to be known as "The United States of America," though, of course, the original people of the time and place had their own, highly descriptive and evocative, names to describe the land.

In time, horses also moved into that country and quickly allied themselves with the people of that land. Being sharp observers of nature, these good folk observed the cats playing "touch coup" and so adopted the game themselves, which they played on horseback as kind of a bloodless warfare.

How the game ever spread back overseas to now be played by Zoey of London is a mystery to me.

What a great picture! Zoey, you are the most adorable little gray kitty! You are so smart to open drawers and look for treats! Terry (my boyfriend) had a Brit a long time ago, Smokey. He still can't get over how smart Smoke was. One time Terry closed him in the laundry room because he had to leave for awhile. Well, was Terry ever surprised when he came home and the little dickens had figured out how to lift the grate off the heater vent, had crawled through the heat ducting, and popped up in the living room! Terry just could not believe it, but the two grates were off, and the Smokester was in the living room so there was no denying it! Smokey also taught himself how to use the toilet instead of the litter box. Another feat that Terry still can't get over! Unfortunately poor Smoke had heart problems and only lived to be about 1 1/2 years old.

But Zoey, I'm sure you'll live a nice long life, and will undoubtedly amaze your humans with more shows of your cleverness. Many treats and scritchies to you on your special day today!
