That said the boards (Monster, CareerBuilder, DICE) tell me that the database is a better route for employers...AND they tell that to people looking as well. I cannot stress how important follow up to an interview is for a candidate. I have seen a well-written thank you note after an interview make the difference in which candidate got the job.
