The 10 Euro charge that the post office demanded was probably the Customs duties or fees
that were levied when the box entered the country. Those duties & fees aren't know when the
package is mailed - so the delivering Post Office collects the fees and sends the money to the Customs folks.

Just kidding. I love a mystery. And I agree with Shepgirl, if the person wanted to remain anonymous, let them. It was a very kind and generous thing to do.
