    Escaped Chickens everywhere!

Chaos on the roads in central Scotland this morning. We have thousands of chickens running around. Please spare a thought for my husband who left at 8am this morning heading in the direction of the affected area. I don't know at this point whether he got to work or whether he is still sitting in the car. You might also spare a thought for the poor chickens.

This from the BBC website -

    Chicken lorry crash causes chaos

The central belt of Scotland has become gridlocked after an articulated lorry containing 3,000 live chickens crashed. Central Scotland Police said there were chickens all over the A80, just before the Castlecary Arches, following the accident at 0430 BST on Thursday.

Police said on and off ramps have been shut causing huge tailbacks troughout the Stirling area.

An alternative route is via the B816 through Bonnybridge/Allandale and rejoining the A80 at Castlecary.

Police have closed the M9, M876 and M80 approach roads.

    Chicken catchers

A police spokeswoman said the road was not expected to reopen for a "considerable time".

Police said specialist "chicken catchers" and vets are at the scene.

"The lorry is blocking the carriageway and there are live chickens on the road," the spokeswoman said.

"Anyone who is trying to get on to the A80 Glasgow-bound from the M9, M876 or the M80 will be unable to do so."

Motorist Tony Collins, from Cumbernauld, said: "There are boxes all over the carriageway and there were still a few chickens running around the embankment."

The Scottish SPCA said it was concerned for the welfare of the chickens. Spokeswoman Doreen Graham said many of them could be in shock and may die.

Central Scotland Police have appealed to motorists on the north bound carriageway not to slow down to watch the recovery operation and to refrain from taking photographs while driving.

The police added that they would like to remind drivers that using a mobile phone while driving is illegal.
