Well, long story here, but I'll shorten it:
My Mom is 70 yrs. old now, and sometimes she has some memory problems. She decided for her B.day in March she wanted a GR puppy (we have had 3 over the years growing up and LOVE them).
She asked me to go to dog-obedience with her because she felt she needed the help, etc.
Sammy has always done well, but at times she would call and say she was very frustated with him or mad because as she has said "he gets really wild and out of control!" (her words).
Normal puppy-behavior I think, but I am not there all the time to see what really happens on a day-to-day basis.
She got it in her head that he was being too naughty lately, and started wondering if he was adopted when he was too young (49 days), which was why I asked about that for her.
We (myself, Dad, & sisters) have also wondered if some of her memory problems have an effect..............I hope not.
She will forget the ways to do corrections, etc. at times, which I think confuses Sammy some of the time.
Long story short, I will be going with her to all the dog obedience classes AND helping her on a regular basis while at home. Also, Sammy gets occasional weekends at my house or my sister & brother-in-laws house (he is VERY loved and sought after). We are not doing that at this time because we know that Mom & him need to work on their obedience issues toghter for the time being. Correct, I hope?
This dog brings her SO MUCH happiness, that we want it to work out! She has been so much more happy and content since getting him- it has done alot for her emotionally. She has had some real health problems over the last few years, so has been sad and not been able to have a dog again until now.
I think it's going to be good for her in the long run: he is mostly mellow and well-behaved, and so loving with her! Just what she needed I think.
Kedi, Wylie, Rudy, and the dog Scout!
