I think Beagles are the cutest!! I always wanted one.
I watched on Animal planet the other day that over in England they BREED BEAGLES for medical research, the footage they showed was HORRIBLE! These cute little loveable puppies turned into cowering bodies of fur. It was awful. They got that particular facility shut down and I think most of the dogs rescued.
Karen, how is Paul's friend's beagle doing?? I think of him often and when watching the show on AP he was all I thought about!!!
My dog we had growing up was strictly outdoors he stayed in the garage, once in awhile he snuck indoors during a thunderstorm, but we had to shuffle him out before my mom saw him.
The dog I vaguely remember that we had before him, stayed with us in the summer outside and in the winter she would go to my grandparents where they let her indoors.
My mom is very tolerant of me bringing my Shaianne over everytime I come over, the once or twice I did go over w/o her they think its weird without her there when I am there. She is just as much as a fixture now as I am.

Oh my gosh, both of my dogs would keel over and die if I left them outside alone even for one minute. They are very needy and clingy. But that's just fine with me

My Dixie - a Golden Retriever is a trained hunter. I was the one who trained her but dad is the one who takes her duck and goose hunting. As soon as she sees him getting ready to go she get soooooo excited she can barely contain herself. We are starting out our puppy in hunting too.

Both dogs are 100% spoiled lovingly house dogs. It does not effect how they hunt. If anything it probably helps because of the wanting to please attitude that comes from you loving them and them loving you. The communication of knowing what you want from them also is enhanced.

In short - hog wash to the theory they have to stay outside. Maybe the owners should stay outside and the dogs inside. Then they might not be so stupid to think this takes away a dogs natural ability to do what it was bred for.

I agree with what everyone said, I think there are people out there that like the status of having a "special" hunting dog but don't want the companionship that goes with it and feels it is easier to leave it outside and feed it outside and not bother with it except to show it off. How sad.
Every dog needs warmth, love and companionship whether a hunting, toy, big or whatever. I totally agree with Albea.
