Day after day I feed my dogs garbage consisting of necrotic tumors and bird beaks(?), and who knows how many dangerous unidentified chemicals per the Propet Large Puppy formula. But in spite of feeding my two dogs this toxic brew they have high energy, excellent coats, no allergies, no arthritis, no metabolic disorders, no diarrhea, no vomiting. Not only that but at feeding time the food doesn't stay in their dishes for long. How could it be that they would eagerly want to eat that crap day after day, and be perfectly healthy? Oh I forgot, in another thread I was told you can't tell by looking.

If only I would feed them raw pork, turkey, chicken back bones, and let's not forget about the frozen bunny in the freezer! Avoid consistency in the diet at all costs. Throw in a one day starvation period to help them purge or whatever the reason? Aaah now I have the solution. Next weekend no more scolding when we go to the pond for a swim. If they really want to go swim out and snack on the deer floating near the one pond edge, I'll encourage them to go for it! What could be a more natural feeding than that???
Frozen bunny? And why would you let your dog eat carrion floating in stagnent water.. I am sorry- we will have to agree to disagree- because I fail to see the humor in that at all.
As far as what you feed- that is your choice, and I am glad they are doing well- but many others are not so lucky. I also would not feed my child something that wasnt good for them knowing the contents could have devestating results- so why would I do the same for my dog? Previous to raw- I had dogs that were the picture of health - loose them to cancer within a year of the onset. Its not worth it to me nor could my heart take it- or my mind I may have caused their death..
I am sorry- but I take the diet very seriously.. Its the main thing I can do daily to insure their health.

I believe that was my frozen bunny thread. A friend of mine's cats killed a rabbit in their house and I fed it to Jasper. Gee, he didn't get lepto, blockages, intestinal perforation, or anything but a good meal from it. Dragondawg likes to stir up trouble in any thread concerning the raw diet, or in fact diet in general.

My vet is very supportive of feeding a well-researched raw diet, and while he's not on it right now due mostly to time constraints, I do feed Jasper raw as often as I can. Even though he's on super premium foods the rest of the time, I do notice a difference. He's got more doggy odor on kibble, and he sheds more. His coat is soft and shiny and his energy and spirits are high regardless.

All the same, Jasper eagerly gobbles up processed food, junk that's been left on the ground, dead animals, and cat poop, so I don't think enthusiasm is a good gauge of food quality. :P

ohhhhh well if the meat was fresh that was fine- and I seriously doubt you fed your baby the fur.. lol... I was totally confused-.. Thank you for telling me..And doggie odor- you are right.. I noticed that too in the month of December when I had to put them on kibble- and it was a good one too.. I also noticed "dog breath" something I never had before- and has since stopped.

I waited until the rabbit had been frozen for a bit and then actually, I gave him the entire rabbit...fur, nails, teeth, and all. I was concerned about it initially, but he pulled away the parts he didn't want to eat and ate the rest. The fur passed without incident.

Funny how this whole thing began as a question from a newbie to RAW.

I did PM Reachoutrescue, and told her it is highly unlikely that RAW has a thing to do with their coughing. However they may be coughing and sneezing due to their body adjusting to a better diet , while they are releasing toxins that may be irritatating to their system.

I have been feeding RAw since 1979.Long before it was fashionable, and certainly while most of the breeders and show ppl still thought I was nuts. If Eukanuba is hosting a Show then it must be great food! at least that was the mentality back then.

I fed RAW because I grew up on a farm and you couldnt pay my grandmother to buy dog food. Her collies lived off what we did.Fresh meats and veggies if they wanted them and straight meats if they didnt. I guess I never really thought about it back then, it was just a lifestyle for me, and for my ister and brother too, who btw all feed RAW.

And yes my guys do at times get fur or feathers, depends on whom went hunting.I have friends that bring perfectly clean carcass remains to me, and some that will still have a bit of hide or feather attached, I feed as is.

Man ... I was wondering- who would make a joke of feeding something you knew was not good for them- when that is all a dog eats, twice a day, day after day- 365 days a year.. I can see if others choose- but you should at least try, or believe you are doing the best at what you feed.. Everyone on this thread that knows me knows I feed raw- that is my belief.. It works for me- .. Thank you for your input Lizbud!

I see no need to be kind to someone who brought up a thread of mine specifically to ridicule it.

Oh my goodness!! What a mess this has become. I should have never posted this thread. One question leads to an insanely argument. WOW!! Well if anybody is interested in the matter at hand....Scruff is no longer coughing or sneezing, so IT WAS NOT THE DIET!! Thank you to everybody that helped me and not ridiculed me. I truely appreciate it and so do my pups.

I'm so glad Scruff feels better! I just saw this thread. =) Please give him hugs for me.

I do very much doubt it was the Raw diet causing this, I've never had any coughing/vomiting issues at all, after feeding a huge variety of RMB's. His throat should not be scratched or raw from the bones, because all of his RMB's should be covered in a thick layering of muscle meat... as I'm sure you know.

    True dat. >:[

I also see no reason to ridicule anyone who feeds whole prey... feathers, fur, and all. I have fed whole prey (whole rabbit, whole game hens, etc) with absolutely no issues. Actually, the feathers and fur provide an even safer meal than RMB's alone. It naturally "pads" the bones that are being digested, even moreso than muscle meat does.

I am glad Scruff is better... And the rest is obviously from people that do not understand the diet--..
