Doesn't mean that all Rotties are bad though does it but I doubt people will see it that way......

That story is horrific for sure, Denise. All Rotties aren't bad, as we all know, but the majority of the population won't see it that way. Thanks to the media, alot of breeds in general have been made to look like monsters. I feel very bad for this poor little baby. So sad

I read about this on my lunch break. Poor baby, I hope the person who was watching the baby is charged with negligence.

Where were the parents, why were the dogs allowed near the baby? so many questions not answered.

Argranade, why not report the dogs owners? if people dont alert animal control and let them know what the dogs are doing, these dogs are going to continue harrasing people and it could end in tragedy. A simple phone call could save a life.

Bad dogs are products of bad owners. If a dog has never been brought up, socialised and trained correctly, then how can it know how to behave?

You would have kicked a dog because it's OWNERS hadn't bothered to teach it a recall? Defending yourself against a dog which is about to bite you is one thing, but 'kicking that dog's ass' for running after you? That truly saddens me.

These dogs aren't beasts. The Rottweilers involved in this case were brought up and trained to be guard dogs and to protect their pub. They had therefore probably never had contact with young children. The fault in this case lies with whoever was stupid enough to leave the baby with the dogs. Its a tragic story, but the dogs cannot be blamed, they were only doing what they had been trained to do, and they thought they were protecting their property.

What's worse is the way Rottweilers are now being portrayed as 'evil' by the British media. It's the same thing as the Pit Bull hysteria and it angers me no end.

ANY DOG can be dangerous if not brought up and socialised properly.

Breedism is a horrible thing.

Rotties, Pit Bulls, Staffies, German Shepherds etc bear the brunt of prejudice, yet I have known many dogs of these breeds who had impeccable tempermants and were lovely animals. I have also met aggressive Labradors, Cocker Spaniels, and Golden Retrievers.

In fact, there was a case a few months ago here in the UK of a Poodle savaging a child. The newspapers rang up straight away to do a report on it, but once they were told the agressive dog was a poodle, they huing up the phone and didn't want to know. An aggressive, man eating Rottie makes a great headline. An aggressive, fluffy Poodle doesn't.

When will we stop blaming the animals and start blaming the owners? Dogs that are brought up, socialised and trained correctly become safe, friendly dogs, and even those dogs that aren't friendly for whatever reason (ie. fear aggression) if owned by responsible owners will be kept muzzled and on a lead whilst in public.

Since the rottweiler incident, there have already been people on the news saying they're going to rehome their dogs as they now don't feel safe having dogs around their children.

I hope the animal shelters are prepared for the influx of Rottweilers they're bound to recieve.

thats the same situation we are in here ( in missouri, usa) except its pitbulls that are being banned. oddly they never reported how they knew the dogs are pitbulls or whatever, and on one occasion they were properly secured in a dog run and someone let them out to see what they would do.

oh well, what can you do to educate people ? the media and movies portray certain dogs as vicious and evil when statistically they are the least likey to attack people. ( i read something a while back that said the most cases of animal bites that require medical attention are caused by house cats, go figure)

These events are truly terrible, but I must say that it seems convenient that there is now a whole string of rottweiler attacks one after the other. Surely the rottweiler community of Great Britain has not set a specific time period to maul people? I think these dog attacks go on all the time, and that the media has picked up on one such attack and is now emphasising on it by backing it up with whatever else they can find. It all just seems a bit suspicious to me and I sincerely hope the breed is not banned.
