    Newborn stray puppy

Hi all, I am brand new to this site, found it by browsing around. I have 2 dogs, 4 cats, 3 rats, and 2 hamsters. Oh yeah, 3 kids too... ha ha. Anyway, August 5th, my son's 10th birthday, we got a call from our next door 16 year old neighbor who said she had puppies for sale. Joey (my son) immediately threw all his other birthday wishes out the window and decided he wanted a puppy. So we went over. Cherokee had found 2 little puppies next to a dumpster when she heard whimpering and looke dunder a bush. They were crawling on their bellies and their eyes were not open. She picked them up and brought them home. Well, of course, one is now ours. The other was taken also. We were not sure if he would live at first. We went right down to Petco and got puppy formula and bottles and yet another bed bed.... lol.. and by jove he is flourishing! He took his first steps that night, and a few days later actually barked, and now he is eating solid food and lapping water, though I still give him the replacement colustrum I bought at Petco. I take him wherever I go, supermarkets, tag sales, not work yet, but everywhere, and he is quite content to play in his little bed with his toys when I plop the whole contraption into a Home Depot cart! I sometimes put him in a front holder, sometimes just his bed, sometimes a carry on kennel. He is the most adorable, beautiful little fellow. Joey named him Poochie and I think they were made for each other.... especially since he was found on Joey's birthday!! Can anyone tell me what they think his breeds might be? Based on research, etc., I am assuming Poochie is now about 5 - 6 weeks of age. I think when we got him two weeks ago he was around 3 weeks? Not sure.. anyway, have a go at his identification! I have heard everything from cocker spaniel to beagle to dachsund and maybe even lab. Thanks!! fulti I hope I upload these pictures right!

My first thought was cocker spaniel, second was beagle - we'll have to wait to see how he grows, but he doesn't look Lab-ish to me ... are his toes webbed? And yup - boy and dog, dog and boy - t'was meant to be!

    Toes are not webbd

Hi thank you so much for your reply. No, toes are not webbed, what would that mean? I thought cocker spaniel first also, he is so cute he looks like a magazine cover.... but his ears are not curly like a cocker would be. Unfortunatly my son is up in RI for two weeks with his dad, so I am with his baby alone watching all the "firsts". I have never had a dog so young, my 2 others were older, and they are really not trained very well at all, my lab/shep mix is hugely protective of me and the family and is aggressive at the door and to walkers by. So, I am getting the dog whisperer book, trying to retrain my other two, and get this baby off to the right start!!!

    Fulti Welcome...

I Have Seen A Lot Beagle Pups In My Day - And At All Ages Too. I Would Guess You Have A Beagle Mix There. As Others Have Said, It Will Be Easier To Suggest Heritage As He Grows. Keep Us Posted And Show Us Graduated Pics Too!!!

I Would Watch Though Taking Him Everywhere Until He Has Had All And His Final Shots.
