You can definitely see the lab, but I don't see any Catahoula.

    Those pictures were adorable!

I totally see the Catahoula in Freckles! her structure and face reminds me of a catahoula, nothing like an aussie. she is too big to be an aussie!! and her coat has a lot of splotchy merle patches like cata's, blue merle aussies are usually lighter, with white and/or tan points. I seriously see no Aussie in her face, but lots of catahoula gorgeousness..

    Here's a purebred Catahoula:

I see a bigger possibility of the dog being a Catahoula/Lab mix, than it having any Australian Shepherd.. O_o I see no Aussie in that dog, except maybe just the COLORS.... The dog's dense coat may be from the Lab part of him, as Labs have a dense coat to protect against cold water when retrieving in the water.

You can see how the Lab's coat is a little longer than the Catahoula's...

    Anyway, that's just my opinion..
Whatever Freckles is, she sure is a cutie! I love her smile. She always looks so happy.

I don't see any aussie, but I really don't see any catahoula either. It's easier when you put her picture up to a catahoula picture that's almost the same colour as her -- but look at these catahoulas that aren't the same colour. I don't see any resemblence in the structure or fur.

I agree with Jordan.. Catahoulas's aren't a very common breed, and I think the possibility of Freckles being mixed with one is very small. The body structure looks completely different as well, IMO. I'm not sure if I see Aussie.. but I definately see Lab.

Whatever Freckles is, she's really cute. I love her Merle coloring!

Well her mom was a purebred Lab, so we know that part already LOL.

It's obvious from her MARKINGS she has Catahoula in here. Compare Catahoula Markings to those of Aussies. Several people including my vet have asked if she was a Catahoula, never any mention of Aussie. Plus, the breeder I talked to was pretty certain she was a Catahoula Mix. Plus the breed isn't as rare around here. The reason I know about them is because we had two in our local shelter, and a beautiful girl who was brought into the vet clinic I worked at. There's also a few breeders in the area.

And it doesn't make sense to judge the full body, as she is a MIX, not a purebred. Of course she is not going to look exactly like the breed. Of course her fur and body structure is going to be different because she is mixed with lab.

Here are some Catahoula pictures. A lot of these dogs look very similar to Freckles, even face wise. Remember, Freckles is also still a puppy.

I just emailed another breeder so I am hoping to hear back from them soon.

Check out the Catahoula/Siba Inu mix. SOOO cute!

The reason the spots look different is because an aussie is a longhaired breed -- spots look more defined on a short haired breed. Compare the merle spots on a rough collie to those on a smooth collie. The smooth collie will obviously have markings more like a catahoula. Either way, it is still the merle gene -- there is no "difference" between merle in one dog, and merle in another.

Well comparing Aussies I see online to her, their markings are very very different. They are more widely dispersed, broken up spots, not all crunched together like this. Plus, you would think being mixed with Aussie some of the pups in her litter would resemble Aussies more, except coloring and having blue eyes. Looking at the Aussies, most have white patches, they have VERY VERY long hair, and you would think at least one pup would be coated like an Aussie. They all remained short haired. Either way, I see nothing similar in Freckles and her siblings that would remind me of Aussie. The only reason I thought they were mixed when babies was because of the red merle pup in the litter. heh. The breeder emailed me back and this is what he said.
"Possibly a mix of Catahoula or Australian Cattle Dog.
    No way to be sure.

Obvious no way to be sure, this is just a guess. Heard Australian Cattle Dog once before, but again she has none of their characteristics. So for now, I think it's safe to say she's a Catahoula/Llab mix. =)
