Have you cleaned out your cookies on a regular basis? Those could definitely slow down your connection.

Go into "start", click on "run", type in "cookies" and hit "okay"

There will be all the temporary internet connections you've ever made. Highlight all of them EXCEPT "index". You need to keep that always. Once you've highlighted all the folders, hit "delete". That will clean out all your cookies. It should help.
