And I appreciate your Words To The Wise at the end - Many pets are abandoned because their owners didn't realize what was involved in their care.

My great-grandfather used to raise Great Danes on the roof of the warehouse behind our wallpaper and paint store. I remember riding on their backs, and I remember the huge dog house he built for them. We could crawl around inside there, and there was a divider to keep drafts away, that made it into two rooms. Seems like several of us could fit in there at the same time. The dogs were so gentle. Great fun. Thanks for reviving the memories.
