I've noticed that Bennie doesn't like his cage covered.. I did it in TN when I had a big enough blanket and he would scream and scream until I went over and peeked inside. The weird thing is, without a blanket, he's fine. He doesn't wake up early, although he USED to. When I first had him, I would wake up to the sound of screeching and whistling. I also noticed yesterday that he was 'yawning' or gaping repeatedly. I know it's okay for tiels to yawn on occasion, but he was yawning one after another. I thought he had something in his throat, and I started panicking. But, what I wanted to know is if that's normal?
That's weird. My birds are the opposite. They scream and scream at night until they get their cover...LOL! Whatever he's comfortable with.

As to the yawning constantly, birds often do that. It freaked me out the first time I saw my birds doing it, but from what I've read and seen, its very normal. They usually do it after preening, so I figure they probably get a feather or something stuck in their throat, and that's their way of trying to get it out. It usually stops if you leave them, but I can't stand to watch , so I usually put some water on a spoon and give it to them. Once they drink, the yawning is over. Its normal though, and nothing to worry about most of the time.
