I have two female American born Desi (their term) friends who use "dude" to greet everyone! I tease them mercilessly for it!
You might think it'd be common in Hawaii but "bro" or "brah" is more common than "dude."
Cool solidarity, huh? Interesting.
I myself use "dude" sometimes, but usually only in jest.
