Yes! I'll celebrate with beautiful Tom anytime!

Now you have to forgive my lack of geography skills. Is Bucuresti anywhere near Kiev and the Ukraine where all the protests and such are going on? Just wondering if that has anything to do with Tom's celebration?

Bucharest is the capital of Romania. We are getting ready for Christmas now, buy pork and we prepare a whole lot of traditional Romanian dishes (Vio edit: even I don't know all of these ) We put the tree on the 24th and we wait to see what Santa brought.

    I hope this helps.

Debbie, Moldova (where I live) is between Romania and Ukraine. I am surprised that US media covers the events in Kiev? I am sure they don't say anything about Moldova. (althought today your State Secretary discussed the issue of Moldova at some meeting in Bulgaria.)

Yes, Vio, it helps immensely! Thank you so much. I'm actually surprised the media is covering it as much as they are also, but you should know it's Public Radio that I listen to and not the regular media. Public Radio seems to be much more focused on the world than the regular media, which I like. They actually had a US citizen that's living there giving reports. She lived right down where all the protests were and they had to ask her to close her window so we could hear her over all the horns honking and other noise from the crowds. It was very interesting to listen to her and to hear how progress was going on the protests.

Also, I think it's big news because it's an election thing. For some reason the US thinks we're the experts on fair elections and we seem to get involved anytime there's a question about an election in another country. Now all you have to do is explain to me why, if we're the experts, did other countries come in to monitor our most recent election to make sure everything was fair and above board?

If anyone is curious and wants to try this out, it's an English to Romanian translator. Go to the site, type in your passage, cut and paste the translation back here. I think it's got some faults, it seems to put question marks all over the place, but maybe Tom the cat can understand it despite the problems.

This may ruin all the fun of this thread, notice it is one of the most popular, by number of hits, but it will help those communicate with Tom more directly.
I simply cannot keep up with translating with the dictionary. With the automatic translator it will be faster, but I won't learn anything either.
Let us know who has tried it.

Debbie, all I can say is people are people - we all are tempted at some point to "help it" a little, if nobody can see , no matter how democratic we are.

Ok I won't talk about elections but I have checked up the recipes:
Sarmale: braised cabbage rolls stuffed with minced pork meat
Toba: which means "drum"- it is a kind of sausage in a pork stomach
    Piftie: pork in jelly
Caltabos: another smoked pork sausage with liver and lard.
Ciorba: Soup, but I could not find out what soup it was.

Sounds as if you need a slivovits (jugoslawian plum schnapps) after the Christmas dinner- just for medicinal purposes.
