Jake was our first dog. We didn't really have any experience with dogs, and we had heard that shelties were fast learners and great with kids. Our kids were young at the time, so we went to a breeder and got Jake. We had him for 8 years and he was just so quiet and withdrawn. He was sweet and we loved him.

We got Max from a shelter. We were looking for a big, gentle dog who looked scary but was a teddy bear at heart. We found Max! He was tied out behind the shelter, and this little girl who was volunteering there with her mom walked right up to him with this teensy tiny little puppy on her shoulder. He was so gentle with her and the puppy. Then I asked if I could take him for a "test walk." I had him on the leash when he saw a truck in the parking lot with it's door open. He pulled me right off my feet and jumped in that truck! We just had to have him. We've bonded so closely. He's got so much character and we just love him to death.
