Make sure the crate is only big enough for her to lay down and stand up to turn around..and they are less likely to go then. Also have potty parties..lol..when they go where they are supposed to make sure you give plenty of hoopla over it! I clap and go yea and gracie gets all excited! I took her out every hour when I was home at first, now we are out about every 2 and half hours..(she is 5 months now)
About the treats...Gracie gets one, too, after she goes, but we come in the house and I am still praising and telling her "let's go get a treat" and now she comes in and goes in the kitchen to the cabinet where her puppy cookies are and sits..little tiny bone cookies.don't give it to her while you are still outside.
I never leave her in the crate for more than 4 hours. I think she could probably hold it a little longer, but I would hate for her to have to. Fortunately I can come home at lunch for an hour and she gets to play and exercise.
Hang in there and don't give up..its 2 steps forward and 3 steps back til they get the hang of it! Good luck!
