Yes coatis are exotics reguarly kept as pets. They are legal here in OR and I've had the pleasure of knowing many of them. Cute little critters, however they are very smart and not suitable for apartment life of any kind. While some people do keep them in the house they should have an outdoor enclosure as well. They can get into pretty much everything, and also know how to unlock doors and open cubbards. I personally find it cruel to keep a coati indoors. They really like marshmellows....just a little tidbit there. :-p The best advice I can give you would be to seek out a breeder. They can answer your questions better than anyone else.
