We usually put the tree in the family room, which is the room we spend the most time in (the one with the TV).
We get our tree from a 'tree lot' - at least that's what we call it! A tree lot to me is a farm where the owner raises pine trees, and cuts them down either ahead of time or while you're waiting. Of course I live in an area with lots of farms and pine trees, and someone who doesn't might have to get their tree from somewhere else.
Oh, yeah and you also need a tree stand, to put the tree in to help it stand up by itself.
We decorate the tree with ornaments. Our ornaments are mostly family heirlooms. You can also get ornaments at a lot of places during the Christmas season - everywhere from grocery stores (Wal-Mart) to card stores (Hallmark). I like to give friends and family members ornaments as Christmas gifts.
Under the tree, my family places presents to each other, wrapped up so they are concealed until Christmas morning, when we open them.
We hang our stocking on the mantle over the fireplace, and fill them with smaller presents, like candy. My family does have stocking for the pets, which we fill with treats and toys. Not everyone does that, though.
Hope that helped! All this talk has me excited about Christmas!
