I call it YUCK!
I used to drink too much of it so gave it up for Lent one year and haven't been able to tolerate the taste ever since. I wish I could do that with iced tea and ice cream!
LOL... really, everyone around here calls it soda, but when I lived in western Pennsylvania, they called it pop.
Anna 66, it's pop in Pittsbugh, too!Originally posted by anna_66
I've always called it "pop". Never ever heard of it being called coke![]()
In Illinois, "Downstate" means any place in the state of Illinois that is not Chicago or its suburbs. My hometown is geographically north of Chicago, but politically and socially "Downtstate"!"Down State" means just that, the southern part of the State where in Ohio we say, "down South/or southern Oh". Down South in Michigan mean *cringe* Ohio or lower
To elaborate on NZer Carole's comments - collectively, all our 'soda' is known as fizzy drink, fizzy or just fizz. We call each brand by its own name when we are specifying.
When I lived in NM, I'm pretty sure that they called it 'soda'.
I cannot understand how people can drink Dr Pepper or root beer! (To me, root beer tastes like fizzy mouthwash!) No offense intended. Cultural differences
We are still able to get fizzy in glass bottles in 250ml, 330ml and I think 600ml sizes, then it comes in plastic bottles at 1.5litres and 2.25litre sizes. I know that in the States they are available in 3 litre bottles as well!
Watch out over the coming months for my brand new website: www.vetnurse.co.nz - currently being constructed (nothing there ATM!) - will update when I can

Yay! I've been boo'd!
It drives me completely bananas when someone says a "coke" but, then specifies another brand. I'm from South Carolina and can't remember for sure what I called it growing up. But, now, I call it soda. I live in Texas, though, and, hear the whole "I wanna Coke. Dr.Pepper that is." thing. Omg. It seriously makes me want to poke my own eyeballs out. ha ha.![]()

I live in Texas, and I call it "soda". To me, Coke is a brand name, and doesn't include every bubbly drink ever made.![]()
I'm from Texas and they're all just cokes.
Teenster, I usually just call it a drink, or I specify which drink, Sex on the Beach, Pina Colada, Margarita. I hate the word 'cocktail'.![]()
Thirsty now...
I personally think it's very logical to refer to them as "Cokes". Afterall Coke was the first, the rest are just imitators. And this is from someone who's a DP fan, not Coke. I view it as very similar to asking someone to Xerox something vs Copy.

As for the 'cocktails'.......I call them 'Adult Beverages'. After all - you are supposed to be an adult when you imbibe in one, and you are supposed to remember to act like an adult after the fact!![]()
