Kiara's Birthday is April 2nd. She'll be 1!
It's a rather special but sad day for us, since april 2nd is the day my mother's mom passed away. I never got to meet her, because she died before I was born. I wanted to name Kiara something after my grandma, but my mom insisted we kept it as Kiara.
When Samantha came into my life, she had been rescued from alongside a busy highway by my neighbor. My neighbor found them (Sam and her puppy sister) August 18, 2002, and the vet guestimated that Samantha was between 6-8 weeks old at that time. I counted back and that took me to the end of June... so I chose June 25, 2002 as my girl's birthday because that was my mother's mom's birthday. She was such a special woman - died Christmas Day 1997 when I was 19 - so it seem natural to "honor" her like this. I had thought of naming Samantha "Millie" after Mom-Mom but my mom insisted that Mom-Mom hated her name and wouldn't have wanted anyone else, even a dog, "saddled" with it. So I let my husband (then-boyfriend) pick and he chose Samantha.
At any rate, I think it's cool to choose days (if at all possible) to honor both your pet and someone else special in your life. I'm sure your grandmother loves that Kiara's birthday honors her. And I'm sure that Mom-Mom is tickled that Samantha shares her birthday.
(Sorry to be so long-winded... I was really close to my grandmother and losing her was really difficult, so I tend to blab on and on about her when the topic turns that way.)
