As long as the kittens are eating on their own, it should be OK to take from mom now. It's always best to get feral kittens at a young age to make it easier to socialize. Plus just the fact it will be much safer for them. Hopefully in the process of capturing the kittens you can also get the mom and have her fixed. We find it's easier to catch mom cat with kittens!
