“What’s the matter, kiddo?” I whispered, picking her up. I sat in the rocking chair in the corner and rocked her back to sleep. I looked at my watch. 1 in the morning. I closed my eyes and put my head back, and before I knew it, I was fast asleep.
I woke up again at 3, because Alexis had turned over in her sleep. I put her in her crib and tiptoed to my room. On the way there I saw that my mother’s light was still on. I rolled my eyes and went to bed.
I woke up the next morning to Kendra shaking me.
“Kyla! Kyla!” she cried. She was in full blown, frightening tears and sobs.
“What’s wrong, Ken?” I asked, beginning to panic. Where was my mom?
“Momma’s bleeding, Kyla! Help!” she screamed and jumped into my arms, still sobbing. I ran to my mother’s rooms with Kendra still in my arms. I put her down as I reached the door.
