Oh, and Staci, I don't know if you saw my reply to CCL, but you can lighten the videos in Windows Movie Maker if that is what you're using. On the left side under #2, click on "show video effects" and the click and drag the "brightness, increase" image down to the video in the timeline. The more you click and drag the lighter it will get. Hope this helps!
