    Memories of Missy

I am remembering the first day I brought Missy home -- she was 3 months old. I showed her her food, and her water and her litter box, and then I needed to lie down, as I was suffering from a chronic pain condition at the time. So I left her to explore the apt. while I watched from the sofa. She sniffed around the dining room and living room and everything seemed to meet with her approval. And then she spied me lying down, and immediately she leapt up on me and stretched out on top of me looking down into my face with such a look of love. She nestled her face close to my ear and started to purr loudly as if to say "I'm home, mom"! It had taken no time at all for us to bond. It was immediate.
From that moment on, every time she saw me sitting or lying, she took it as an open invitation to stretch herself out on top of me. Some nights she would be forced to move several times while I changed position, but she would climb right back up, or else nestle in beside me so that I could feel her warmth through the blankets. She loved being close to me and was very possessive -- absolutely hated it when I was on the computer or the phone, and would do anything she could think of to distract me, including stretching out on the keyboard, or sitting between me and the screen. Trying to read a newspaper was a challenge with a 12 lb. cat lying on top of it. And while I would be busy doing my Christmas baking, she would perch herself up on the top of the folding kitchen door and peer down at me meowing until I acknowledged her. Anything to distract me and remind me that I belonged to her, and I needed to pay her more attention. She loved for me to hold her like a baby on her back with her body stretched right out full length -- a yard long -- she was a very long cat. She would lie like that in my arms for the longest time, totally content. She had the cutest little habit of looking at me and then bowing her head down and looking at me sideways until she turned herself over and plopped on her back. It was a playful little gesture, which she used to ask forgiveness if she had been naughty, or to just invite play or a tickle to her tummy. And it is one of the most endearing things I remember about her.
