What a great story! It's always wonderful when you have a cat for a long time and suddenly, here comes a forever home! That has happened for me only a few times and it was so nice (people sent photos to let me all was ok!) Good work! and good for you thinking of your kitty as a possibility! Will they keep in touch with you for a while?
