We rounded up all three little ones, Lexie in the stroller, Kendra and Matthew in the
wagon being pulled by me. Luckily it had stopped raining, and the sun was starting
to come out. We lived about a block from the park, so we went often.
As we got there, I was surprised to see Spencer there with his two younger
siblings, Erica and Jeremy. Erica was the cutest kid I’d ever seen. Spence and I met
up at the park on occasion with all five kids. Erica was 3 and Jeremy was 7. I smiled
as we got closer, and he smiled back as he spotted us.
“There’s that lovely smile.” Spencer said as he kissed me. I helped Alexis out
of the stroller and lifted Kendra and Matthew out of the wagon. I sat down next to
Spencer on the bench and sighed. He slipped his arm around my shoulder and I
scooted closer to him.
“My mom’s having twins.” I said out of the blue. I waited for his reaction.
“Twins? That’s not good Kyla.”
“I know. But what can I do?” I said. I bit my bottom lip. I didn’t want to cry
now.
“I’ll give you all the help you need, okay?” he said. I bit harder on my lip. I felt
so vulnerable and useless, like I couldn’t take care of my own family.
“Thanks.” I said quietly. I was afraid that if I opened my mouth again, I would
start to cry. Things just weren’t going my way today.
