With Alexis asleep in my arms, I rested my head on the wall. I heard my mom getting
ready in her bedroom, and soon, the door opened and she walked past us. I looked
over at the clock. 2:45. Great.
I put Alexis back in her crib and walked to the kitchen to call Spencer. I kicked
off my shoes and dropped into the couch. His mom answered.
?Is Spencer there??
?Well actually, no he isn?t. He hasn?t come home yet. You want me to tell him
ya called?? she asked. I loved her accent. She was from Tennessee, and moved here a
few years after Spencer was born. You could still make out her southern accent.
?Well, yeah, I guess. Tell him to call Kyla.?
I hung up the phone and tried to guess where he was. I figured he had gone to
the store for his family again. He always did, I doubted his mom had even seen a
grocery store.
Samantha, Kendra and Matthew appeared from my bedroom and Matthew
and Kendra went to go play outside. Sam came and sat next to me.
?Why were you and Mom yelling again?? she asked.
?Because. Mom keeps going to work late, and she?s going to get fired if she
keeps it up. And she?s having twins, Sam. Twins!? I cried, throwing my hands up in
the air. ?Do you want to take everyone to the park??
?Sure. I?ll go get their coats.? she said, and walked to the closet. I smiled. Sam
was becoming such a big help. She was taking care of the kids like I had when I was
11. I got off the couch and changed Alexis into some clothes. I tossed her pajamas
into the pile by the door and changed her diaper. I laughed as I tickled her tummy
and she screamed with delight.
We rounded up all three little ones, Lexie in the stroller, Kendra and Matthew
in the wagon being pulled by me. Luckily it had stopped raining, and the sun was
starting to come out. We lived about a block from the park, so we went often.
