Just thought I'd try to answer this . Tiels you really can't definitely tell until they are adults unless DNA testing is done. The differences in adult hens and males is sort of dependent on their coloring. Regular grey females are usually not quite as bright as the males. Non-lutinos tend to have little bars under their tales that fade on the males but stay on the females. On pearled tiels, females keep the pearl look while the males tend to lose the pearling on their backs, it just turning into more large blotchy patches than the "pearls."
