Thankfully, most of the shleters here in Toledo are not like that. We have an excellent humane soceity that will chaning from a limited intake facility to an open door. The rarely put animals down and they also have an agreement with the Dog warden to take as many adopatble animals as they possibly can. We also have several active rescue groups in the area.
Some of the rest of Ohio, is not so lucky. In fact, wehave some of the most horrible shleters anywhere, where dogs receive no et care, no sperarion from other aniamls, and are euthenized by gas chamber or gunsWe have an active group, the Ohio Humane Organizattion, that is working to change the laws, and have had some succes in some counties, but stillhav ea way to go.
Our Spot was an owner surrender, and was only given one month. He was in SE Ohio, and they put down more Pit Bulls and Dalmamtians then any other breed. We were so lucky he was given that one extra day!
