Mine are the same way, I could walk on rock and not really feel it they are so tough. The husband hates it. I'm baerfoot all the time, even when I go back up north, I'll walk in the snow barefooted. I guess we should be thankfull we live in Florida and can get away with barefeet. Anyway, it's easier to wash feet then shoes. LOL

My mom has always said it's a Floridian thing. The only downfall though, is when it's summertime and the pavement/sand/grass/ EVERYTHING gets really hot... you sorta have to run quickly across wherever. Our deck especially gets hot.
