This IS the present. I could care less what happened in the past. If she CANNOT even afford to take her pet in for an exam, she should wait until she can afford it. How hard is that to understand? I waited to aquire new pets until I had the funds to do so. I didn't go get another pet just because it was cute, or I wanted to rescue it etc. I don't see why you are missing the point here.
