Lake Murray is one of the most beautiful spots in SC. There are many, for sure, but it is one of my favorites!! How lucky your parents are!!! My daughter's father lives about 1 mile from the lake and they go there often in the summer months.

Lake Murray is a "man made" lake, built in the 50's to run generators for the local power company. It is huge and beautiful. My grandfather built a house, right on the lake, out of rocks in the lake bed (before they allowed the water in). We spent a lot of time there when I was very small. After his death in 1968, my grandmother sold the property for $25,000. These days, that piece of property, surrounded on three sides by water, would probably sell for $500,000 or more. Unfortunately, there was no one at that time, in our family, who could afford to take it over.
