When my niece (who lives in my basement) adopted her guinea pig, Turnip she choose her because of her red eyes. The woman at the rescue said that people don't like red eyed piggies because they think they are demonic or some such...baloney. So my niece felt it would be a chance for a "hard to place" little girl.
