Although I've never had a male dog, my vet explained to me early on in my doggie Mom years that it is imperative to spay and neuter dogs that are not to be bred, not only to prevent unwanted litters but for health reasons as well. Unaltered, females have a much higher incidence of breast cancer and pyometra and males, testicular cancer and prostatitis. It confounds me why human males project their own fears and apprehensions regarding the "family jewels" issue onto their males dogs, especially when it puts their pet's health at risk.
