I'm guilty of giving my boys human food. If you allow the dog to have the choice of getting people food or doggy food, of course it'll pick people food. I give my boys a variety of people food...apples, bananas, small pieces of meat, eggs..I just have to make sure that I'm not feeding enough to disrupt the "balanced diet" they already get. It's kind of like adding a really sweet chocolate sundae to your diet. Once in a while is fine but if that's all they eat, it can be quite unhealthy.
I think it depends on the food you are giving......fruits and veggies hardly compare to a chocolate sundae
My dogs love their veggies. I wouldn't dream of not giving them any.
