Okay, here is something I have a problem with.
If one is convicted of any sexual crime toward a minor, you are a Registered Sex Offender for LIFE. Anyone can access that info and it will always follow you around.
I think that is great! Child molestation/rape/etc. are some of the most horrific crimes in our society.
But there is one problem...
Let's say you are an 18 year old boy. Your girlfriend is 16. You two have sex and her parents find out and get angry. They prosecute. In most states this is called statutory rape. Even though you are both willing participants, you get convicted. You are now a Sex Offender for LIFE!
This scenereo is quite different from what we consider sex offenses, rape, or child molestation. Unforatunatly, most people checking sex offender records can't tell the details of you case. So, for all they know, you are a violent criminal to small children.
How is that fair?
