Your stories were very enjoyable, and your kitties are awesomely gorgeous! I have a Maine Coon mix, Dexter, who looks very much like your Bob!

You have done a magnificent job to get Joey out of her "shell" so quickly! You could NEVER post too many pictures of these two precious kids of yours!!! So keep them coming!

Here is the link to a recent post of my Dexter!

    Hi Again,

Jen(hopefully I have the first name right) asked a questions about working with sisal and I wanted to give her some information on it

So, since I am doing that, I also wanted to say thanks again to all of you for the wonderful praises of my kitties. I have told them all about what you have said and given them some extra treats and ear scratchings. I don't know if they understood, but they really liked the treats and scratches.

I also wanted to say I appreciate the encouragement that you have given me with Joey and letting me know that I am not alone in this. Also, I am not a professional photographer, I don’t even play one on TV, but I liked the compliment.

Now back to the real reason for this post, Sisal. Sisal really isn’t really much more complex to deal with then carpet, it is just more time consuming. All you really need to do is anchor it at the base of the post and start to wrap the post up until you reach the top. I know that sounds too easy and I will get to what I considered to be the hard parts in a minute. The first 2 sisal post I did I used a couple of half inch screws for the anchors, and the next two post on the nice trees that I did I used a good staple gun. I actually went out and bought a professional electric one from sears, it cost me, but it was well worth the price. I am truly a man when it comes to tools and I never pass up the opportunity to get a new one. The first hard part with sisal is that it is really abrasive and I highly suggest wearing gloves when working with it. The next is that you need to make sure that you wrap it tight, and that takes effort, I was worked up a sweat when I did the posts and my hands hurt from griping and pulling the rope. The first 2 that I did were really a bear because I did them all in one shot, but the second 2 to I was able to use the staple gun and put in an anchor every 7 or 10 wraps and that break made it a little easier. Really that is about it as far as the effort goes, it is not hard it just takes brute force. I also saw a suggestion of taking a piece of wood and a hammer and using that to pound down the rope courses to make them closer, but I had not figured out a way to do that and keep hold of the rope.

As far as the actual rope goes make sure that you get plain sisal and nothing that has been coated, you should be able to get it at just about any decent hardware store. I also liked the 3/8 inch size, 1/4 seemed to small and 1/2 too big. In the 3/8 size 100 feet will cover about 33 inches of a 3 x 3.5 inch post. I have also seen some sisal posts in the store that use a carpet instead of a rope, that would make creating a sisal post easy. I have looked for something similar but have yet to find it, my next place to look will be the carpet store.

Anyway, that is about it. Please let me know if you have any question on this or cat cat tree building in general. I am by no means an expert, but I will answer what I can.

Really enjoyed the Bob and Joey show I, too, especially liked the picture of Bob the Bear and wish I could print it out for posterity.

You asked if any other kitties made an announcement after using their litter box. Our cat, Briggs, doesn't usually say anything when she urinates but I can always tell when she's engaged in other cat box activity. Her way of letting us know is that she begins to VROOM around the house, doing the crazy cat caroming off the walls, running as if Satan himself is after her and chattering all the while. She seems so HAPPY when she's bouncing around like this. Methinks she feels 5 lbs lighter?!! Then, of course, there are other times that she does this just because she feels like it, or there's a full moon or it's the middle of the night and her humans need to be awakened, NOW!!!!!

That's an adorable story about Joey and her towels. What a sweetie. Yes, it sounds like you've a very nice family. So heartwarming to know that 2 more abandoned cats have found a wonderful home ----- Bobbi

    Welcome at PetTalk Bryan!
It also took me some days before I read your long stories but they were well worth reading them because I now have the feeling I know your kitties quite a long time.

I agree: Bob with his size seems to be a Maine Coon -the only cats that still look slim or at least athletic with 17 lb. If I hadn't seen them together it would be very difficult for me to tell who is Joey and who is Bob.

It is great that they are such good friends hanging out together on the couch. I am sure this helps Joey a lot to feel comfortable.

I am looking forward to meeting them often here.

Tigris and Filou send headbumpies. (Their size difference is about the same, but Filou is an Abyssinian of 7,5 lb and Tigris half Aby half Siberian of 13 lb).

Bryan, did you steal my cat

LOL, Pichu will be Bob's copy when he grows Bob's size. I bet Bob has the softest fur

    Joey is also very beautiful.

I was going to let this thread fade into the sunset without saying anything, but the post by Vio&Juni has promted me to post another pic of Bob.

Here you go, Bob Sleeping. It's cute, but I thnk Pichu has got him in this one.

I'll encourage him to try and be more cute and try to capture it on camera.

    Bryan, Bob and Joey..

Welcome to Pet Talk. I really loved seeing all your gorgeous photos - I especially liked the last one where they are lying togther on the couch - they look so contented and happy - what more could any parent wish for!

I'm sorry I took so long to respond to your great thread, but I have been a bit pre-occupied with the intro of my new cat at home (Thanks for your kind words in my thread by the way), so I had to wait until I came into WORK to find the TIME TO READ THIS *AHEM*.

What I love about Pet Talk is that no-one will ever get fed up hearing about your pets, and you never have to worry that negative people will tell you that you love them "too much" or are "obsessed".... you have found a bunch of people who are all crazy about their furkids!

Good for you also by taking in "problem" cats. Not everyone has the patience it takes to handle their special needs, both adused cats and ferals have their own little "habits" and with enough love and patience I am sure they are the most rewarding pets anyone could ever wish for!

Scritchies and belly rubs to Bob and Joey

Thanks Kay for my great sig & avatar!!!
