I saw it and I know exactly how Cubs fans feel. In the 1997 ACLS, the Orioles were playing the Yankees and some stupid 12 year old punk reached WAY out over the side of the stadium and caught a ball that would've not even gone outside the park for a homerun had he left it alone, and so the Yankees got a homerun - a pretty sizeable one if I remember correctly. The kid was hailed as a hero up in New York City. It was unbelieveable. But yeah, after that happened, the O's were totally deflated and the Yankees won the Series. It was sickening.
I'm hoping the Cubs can pull it out tonight, but I'm afraid they've been completely deflated too. If you see the Marlins vs. the Yankees in the World Series, you'll see the interest drop to next to nothing. But if somehow the World Series has either the Cubs or the Red Sox in it (or both!), you'll see probably the biggest ratings ever! People are SICK of the Yankees! People want someone else to win other than the Yankees. It ain't just me either.
Anyway... that was a really stupid move on that "fan's" part and he should be embarrassed. I don't feel bad for him - he completely caused the unraveling to happen. If he hadn't interfered, Alou would've caught the ball and they would've had 4 outs to go to get to the World Series. Instead, his interference made the Marlins tie the game and deflate the Cubs and the Marlins took major advantage of that and thus the final score. If I were the Commissioner of MLB, I'd fine that guy (or try to anyway, lol!).
*crossing fingers for a Cubs win tonight*
