What about Whiskas? I remember reading the ingredients on a can (I believe it was whiskas) and the ingredients weren't bad..
Whiskas isn't really any better.. that's like going from feeding your dog Kibbles N Bits to something like Mighty Dog. They are all really bad foods.

I do use the Whiskas wet food packets. And have added Meow Mix to Kylies food once, but do not do it regularly as Whiskas, Meow Mix and Friskies are just as bad as Walmarts Special Kitty!
When I see people buying that and Ol Roy I just cringe.

I know a few people here use the Whiskas pouch food as a treat, I've used them a few times as a treat and my cats love it. But I would never use Whiskas as my cats main diet.

This discussion about "bad" cat foods has me really worried. The ONLY "specialist" cat food available here in Bahrain is IAMS, and Ally loathes it. I have tried mixing it with her regular food a few bits at a time, but she picks them out!

She will ONLY eat Meow Mix and Kit-n-Kaboodle. She also refuses to eat any wet food. I have tried every brand on the shelf, plus all those new ones (which come in the little individual sachets), and she just tries to "bury" them.

The problem here in Bahrain is that it is such a tiny place, and we only have one specialist pet store (which has not had a new container of stock delivered since the start of the Iraq war!!!). They are out of stock of everything - even kitten formula, cat shampoo, spray repellent - EVERYTHING!!! So the ONLY places to buy pet supplies are the supermarkets, and they just stock the commercial brands like Whiskas and Friskies etc.

Ally will also not eat chicken or steak (either raw or cooked). The only "human" food she eats is ham, and occasionally cucumber and lettuce (I think she has an identity crisis and imagines that she is a rabbit )

Thanks Kay for my great sig & avatar!!!

I think in this case, I wouldn't worry *too* much. What does your vet say? If she is doing well and not gaining a lot of weight (which poor brands tend to do) I think she should be fine. I used to always feed "cheap" cat foods, because I never knew any better. Then I talked to my vet about it, and found a food that works best for my girls.

Also - Ally eat's cucumber?? That's SO FUNNY!!!! Hehe.. my cats won't eat any vegetable!

    Thanks Nomilynn,

Ally's weight does need to be kept under control. The Dilmun's natural "build" is incredibly thin and light, so by her breed's standards she IS on the heavy side! Although IMHO she looks healthy as she is now - she lost weight when I put her in a cattery over the summer, and I just thought she looked like a little bag of bones!

Yep she loves cucumber - she just chews on a big chunk, and licks off the juice - she doesn't like it sliced up.

Her other strange food is CHERRIES - she loves them too!

Thanks Kay for my great sig & avatar!!!

I used to feed Toby Friskies - until PetTalk showed me the light I then realized that I had to get better foods. I am now giving them Science Diet - I tried Felidae and the bag almost full is still sitting in the cupboard - they didn't like it!! I have to mix it with Science Diet to get them to eat it!

Most of the time, I think you get what you pay for in this world.

My boys love a can of Fancy Feast or a foil of Whiskas. Just like I love a large fries from McDonalds. Doesn't mean it is healthy for us to eat on a regular basis. So, I try to recognize what is a "treat" and what is healthy.

For cats, a general rule: corn is bad; byproducts are bad.

The canned ProPlan that my boys get twice weekly has huge chunks of salmon and fish- skin on. They love it and I can see that it is more natural and healthier than the other stuff.

    Ally Cat's mom,
I don't think you should worry since you are extremely limited to what you can give her!!!
