I think it's fine, as long as the crate is securely in the vehicle. If for some reason I ever have to leave my dog/s in the back of a truck, I'd keep them in a secure crate or the very middle tied to a short leash so that they can't reach the edge, and so the wind can't get in and infect or bother their eyes.

I once saw a pickup truck with a huge homemade crate that took up the entire back. It was wooden, and their was a hole where the dog's head was sticking out. To get the dog out, they lifted the top off. I thought that was so cool.
