    Please Help!!

When we go on walks Katie is ALWayS pulling, tugging, and wheezing her little heart out
It's driving me nuts! I dont take her on walks much now because of it. It's not very enjoyible, for me. I heard about a halter(SP?) do they work? what do they do? and what size would fit Katie best? I need help!! please! oh yeah and where can you get them at?? Thanks!

Has Katie been to obedience training? If she hasn't, that would be your best bet.

Also, when shes pulling to go, pull her back and say HEEL. Try it again, and if she still trys to pull, stop again and say NO, HEEL. Repeat process.

Katie never had obidence classes, we were doing something like that, we would pull her back and say walk! nothing is working, but I could try the heel

Captain does that to me too ........... and I will be getting him a halti soon.

BUT what I also do is if he pulls me I STOP DEAD and refuse to walk anymore until he comes back to my side ...... that works well for awhile .... but it does take me longer to walk around the block ..... 'cos I am always stopping.

He has been to training .... but my loving husband walks him sometimes too, and he lets Captain do ANYTHING he wants!!

What exactly is "heel" I've always wondered. I mean when you say that to a dog what are they supposed to do.
    I've been Defrosted!

Thanks for the great signature Kay!

It means stay by me. Like, don't go ahead or behind, walk with me.

Heel is when the dog is right beside your leg. Not in front, not behind.

I'm still in the process of having kai walk nicer. He knows heel but I don't really care if he heels during a walk..I just want him to stop pulling my arm off. A very experienced dog trainer on a sheltie forum told me to try a technique where you turn around when the dog pulls. So...if katie starts pulling in front, you turn around and walk away from wherever she wanted to go.

Nope, no dog is ever too old for obediance classes. The ones I did with Daisy, they were all older then her. Like, 3, 4, and 5. Daisy was 8 months..lol.

It depends. The local park we go too had an 8 week class for about $60.00. But its well worth it.

Obedience is worth every cent. I'm trying to save enough of my paycheque for a set of basics and advance obedience for kai. My mom said that once he's showing that he's obedient enough, that she'll pay for our agility classes. If only he wasn't so stubborn..lol
