Firefighter Phred here ~

As Angels3 might say, "Good Onya, Wade Hampton Firefighters!"

But it's true, most Fire Departments do "Public Service" type rescues when they have the resources to do them without risking their personnel. Seems the smaller the Department, the more often the phone rings with this type of call...

I'm in a small, rural Department that often gets "strange requests" for assistance:
Water in the basement, Kat up a tree, Dog fell through the ice on my pond, Horses, cows, goats out wandering on the road, Tree down on the road, Have you seen my missing dog, and the list goes on. We've told our Dispatchers "If the public calls for *help*, send the page out and we'll try to assist." And we usually get a good turnout of willing Firefighters, too !
