My closest friends have always been male. I never consciously chose that, it just sort of worked out that way. Several of my closer male friends are gay, several are straight. I'm not sure what happens when I become close friends with a woman... I think sometimes we have different needs and expectations of friendship (does that sound as hokey as I think it does?). Dunno... I just usually have longer sustaining friendships with males.
