"Well, we have good news and bad news. Good news, he's doing okay now, with the help of medication. Bad news, he has cancer. We found a cancerous lump on the inside of his left leg. There is a small chance it will have to be amputated. He needs to go to surgery immediately so we can remove the lump. There is a chance he won't make it. The cancer could spread to his brain or his heart within a matter of a few months. Right now all we want is for him to live his life as happily as he can. We're giving him 4 months to live at this moment." she said.
Amanda broke down. She cried, and the doctor herself had to fight back tears. I looked at the doctor and then to Amanda.
"I'm so sorry, Ari." she said. What did she have to be sorry for? If she was sorry for pulling me into her family, she had no right to be. I felt I needed to be here for her when Carson's time came.
"You can go back and see him now, before surgery, if you feel up to it." Dr. Specke said. Amanda looked at me.
"Want to go see him girl?" she asked between sobs. I wagged my tail in agreement. She carried me to the back where he was lying on a table. When he saw us come in he wagged his tail, making thumping noises on the table, just like I had when I was sick. Amanda rested me on the table as she bent over to kiss Carson.
"You'll be okay, Carson. Promise me you'll pull through this for Amanda, okay? She'd die without you." I said, giving him a quick kiss on the nose. "You can do it, Carson. I know you can."
