When I was about 8, my rabbit, Nibbles, was PTS. Her back legs were paralyzed and she had to drag them when she walked. My mom called the vet, and they told her to come in and they would put her to sleep. It was best for her. She was very very old.

I think it's odd that people press "no" and not "no but maybe in the future." You can NEVER know that you might not have a suffering animal in the future that might have to be put down.
