About this issue, I think it is sad and horrible that a human being would save an animal over a human in a burning house. As much as I love animals, I cannot and will not delay a human's safety to after that of an animal. Put yourself in this situation. You all are humans. I know what you saying but not all of us here share the same love for humans... I like very very few people, very few. Yet I'd still save the human. If it was my pets I would save them over anything but family, then I'd try save both. meaning who ever I'd stumble apon first. My pets are my life...my friends and my family.
